I'll be relocating to Munich in September and am wondering what to do with my RD. I'm concerned that emissions testing may make it difficult for me to import and get approval for a smokey 2-stroke that was not originally registered there.

Does anyone have any experience of importing old, a-hem sorry classic, 2-strokes into Germany or advice on what hoops I will need to jump through to get the necessary paperwork?

Cheers

Dave

Don't worry it's not that difficult to get the bike approved as long as it's just an "inside Europe" relocation.
If you're from the US or Australia it'll be more paperworks.

The most important thing is some document saying the bike was first registred in another county at a certain date. This date is used for all regulations like emmisions or if a second mirror is required.
Keep in mind that if it's before 1989 you're completely out out trouble.

Hi,

buying a good frame with german papers should be less than 100Euros.

Depending on your skills as a m(ech)anic, Taking the bike apart and rebuilding it on the german frame might be cheaper, faster and more fun (than hanging around at authority-offices).

Additionally, your original papers will be impounded and destroyed...

So, the hassle is back as soon as you re-relocate back home.
