How are 31w carbs restricted?

Beitrag von mikotus »

Hello everyone!

Mein Deutsch war nie so toll und ich habe seit langem nur english benutzt so ich dachte ich wurde diesesmal euch sparen...

I have an old pair of 31w carburators that I took apart while working on the not-restricted carbs that are used.

I may have in my youth some 10 yrs ago changed better looking parts into the carbs in use from these 31w carbs. The bike runs rich without real power and I'm worrying if I've mixed something up.

My 31w's have odd main jets
5k1 needles (as the real carbs)
345 needle jets (as the real carbs)
22,5 pilot jets (as the real carbs)
and 2.0 cutaway slides (as the real carbs)

Is it true that the needles, needle jets, pilots and slides are identical and the restriction is in the carb body?

Hello,

do you mean the restriction to 34 PS?

Did you check the diameters of the jets allready? Maybe the have been dilled to a larger diameter?

Yes, somehow restricted. How is that done if the jets and needle are the same? Are they supposed to be the same or has someone tried to rebuild them into full power ones?

Hi Mikotus,
have a look to this site:
http://www.rd350lc.net/pageBRIDAGE.htm
It describes the restricted versions.
Below you see the setting for the 59 HP version
best regards
